2. APAS met with Transport Canada officials to discuss the Bunge-Viterra merger: On June 4, APAS and other farm groups met with Transport Canada officials to discuss the review process for the Bunge-Viterra merger. The Department submitted its report to the Minister of Transport on June 2, so The Minister and federal Cabinet are now deciding whether to approve the merger or impose conditions to address public interest concerns.

3. New APAS letter to Ministers Rodriguez and MacAulay about the Bunge-Viterra merger: On June 5, APAS sent a letter to Minister Rodriguez (federal Minister of Transport) and Minister MacAulay (federal Minister of Agriculture) to again express our concern about the proposed merger between Bunge and Viterra. Recent analyses, including those conducted by the University of Saskatchewan and the Competition Bureau of Canada, have highlighted the potential for this merger to result in an estimated annual loss of $800 million for Canadian farm families. Click here to read our letter to the two Ministers.

4. Reminder to register for APAS District meetings in July: The APAS Board of Directors has scheduled the next round of APAS District meetings for the first two weeks of July. If you haven’t registered yet, please click here to complete a short registration survey to confirm whether you’ll be attending. Meeting agendas and other relevant materials will be sent to registrants closer to the meeting dates.

5. APAS provincial election issues survey: With the provincial election coming on October 28, APAS wants to know the top agricultural issues our members are concerned about. We have a survey with one question: What is the most important agricultural issue that the provincial government needs to fix right now? Click here to share your opinion.

6.
